Success! I hear this word more and more frequently, however, like many words, its meaning has changed over time. This word originates in Latin as meaning to overcome adversity.
Frequently,it appears that success is used to describe those that have become wealthy monetarily. News and social media focuses that success and fame are synonymous. Having been in professional sales over 30 years of my life, I know that when I've achieved and exceeded quotas that people describe me as successful. The aging process also effects the definition of success. Younger generations define success more frequently around the fame and monetary components while older generations begin to include good health as a component of success.
Yet, I believe, success is not all about the money, about the recognition or health. I believe that success is about internal transformation. It is about coming into life and learning how to use our own personal individual gifts and talents to improve the world.
We read and hear stories of those that have won tremendous amounts of money only to "lose" it or spend it and be back where they started before they won it. We read and hear stories about those people who achieve fame...actors, singers, musicians, politicians...who then spiral downward with addictions (drugs, serial relationships, anger outbursts, violence). Obtaining money and fame without the strength of an internal heart-spirit connection appears to be temporary success rather than success that lasts forever.
I believe that to have sustainable success, that is, success which lasts, we must begin with an internal transformation where we recognize our inner voice and develop our unique gifts and talents in making a difference in the world. When we follow that still small voice, wealth and health naturally flows and circulates. It is in the continuous circle of giving and receiving that success happens. So, identify what your purpose is today, follow your inner heart-spirit voice, believe in yourself and you will be successful. Here's to your success!
